Under the patronage of His Excellency Eng. Omar Al Kurdi/ the Jordanian Minister of Communication and Information Technology and the attendance of Prof. Naji Abu Rumailah/ President of AL-Isra Private University, Dr. Emad Abuelrub/ ACIT Secretary General, Dr. Ayman Al-Nsour/ Conference Program Chair and Dean of Faculty of Science and Information Technology at AL-Isra Private University, the opening session for the International Arab Conference on Information Technology (ACIT'2005) was inaugurated at 10.00 a.m on December 6, 2005. The attendance included Prof. Faisal AL-Haj/ Assistant Secretary General of Association of Arab Universities, and many participants including guests, specialists, researchers, and online participants from International Palestine University in Ghaza, Palestine.
The opening ceremony started with recitation of Holy Quran followed by the following opening speeches:
Dr. Ayman Al-Nsour/ Conference Program Chair and Dean of Faculty of Science and Information Technology at AL-Isra Private University, gave the first opening speech in which he welcomed the conference participants and guests. He talked about a specially designed management system for conferences that was used by the conference committee which automates the paper submission and the whole reviewing process, then he introduced detailed information about submitted, accepted, and published papers and the participating countries highlightening AL-Isra Private University full support in the preparation for the conference. He concluded his speech thanking the conference Secretary General for the support he offered during the preparation for the conference.
Dr. Emad Abuelrub/ ACIT Secretary General clarified in his talk the idea of this conference since it started six years ago until this meeting. He pointed out that ACIT is an international, scientific, refereed, and specialized conference in information technology that is held annually in one of the Arab universities. Then he added that ACIT is the official conference of the Colleges of Computers and Information Society, stemming from the Association of Arab Universities. It is supervised by an international Steering Committee that is always updated consisting of 23 members representing different Arab and foreign universities. It also has a General Secretariat that is hosted by Zarqa Private University, Jordan and a Technical Committee consisting of 94 scholars and specialist. He also mentioned that the number of the supporting universities has reached 52 Arab universities. He concluded his talk by thanking AL-Isra Private University, its President Prof. Naji Abu Rumailah, Dr. Ayman AL-Nsour/ Conference Program Chair, General Secretariat members, Steering Committee members, Technical Committee members, researches, and all the team at Al-Isra Private University who worked hard to make ACIT’2005 a successful conference. 
Dr. Naji Abu Rumaila/ President of AL-Isra Private University and the Conference General Chair gave a speech in which he welcomed all guests, and stressed the importance of information technology in developing all sectors of life. His speech crystallized AL-Isra Private University deep interest in this field by establishing three new departments at the Faculty of Information Technology.
His Excellency Eng. Omar Al-Kurdi/ Minister of Communication and Information Technology gave a welcoming speech for guests and online participants from International Palestine University in Ghaza. He stressed the role of information technology in saving time, efforts, and money which increased international competition in application of increased technology in various life sectors such as education, health, and e-commerce. His excellency also highlighted the role of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in utilizing information technology and eliciting investment through its young distinguished political and economic resources and good infrastructure. He also introduced the unified electronic government programme. He concluded his speech thanking AL-Isra Private University for its unique efforts and all sectors that offered the needed requirements for the conference. He greeted the participants and wished them success and nice stay in Jordan.
Prof. Naji Abu Rumaila/ President of AL-Isra Private University and Conference General Chair announced the official opening of the conference.

The Second Day: Wednesday 7/12/2005
  • A keynote lecture titled "The Impact of Computers on the Formalisation and Study of Languages" by Prof. Fairouz Kamareddine, Heriot-Watt University, Scotland.
  • Three parallel sessions
    1. Session D2MA: Arabic Language Processing
    2. Session D2MB: Software Engineering.
    3. Session D2MC: Internet & the Web /Information Security.
  • Three parallel sessions
    1. Session D2EA: Arabic Language Processing / Image Processing.
    2. Session D2EB: Software Engineering / Information Systems.
    3. Session D2EC: e-Commerce / e-Learning / Information Security.
  • Visit to METS 2005.
The Third Day: Thursday 8/12/2005
  • A keynote lecture titled “Is Discovery Informatics a Methodology or Ontology?" by Prof. Hani Mahdi, Al-Isra Private University, Jordan.
  • Three parallel sessions
    1. Session D3MA: Image Processing.
    2. Session D3MB: Database Systems / GIS
    3. Session D3MC: Computer Networks.
  • Three parallel sessions
    1. Session D3EA: Pattern Recognition.
    2. Session D3EB: Algorithms & Applications / Image Processing.
    3. Session D3EC: Digital Telecommunications.
  • The closing session.
The Fourth Day: Friday 9/12/2005
  • Visit to Petra.
    Meetings during the conference
ACIT Steering Committee held its annual meeting that was chaired by Dr. Emad Abuelrub/ ACIT Secretary General on Wednesday 7/12/2005 at AL-Isra Private University. President of AL-Isra Private University attended parts of this meeting and welcomed the attendants.
The main recommendations of the meeting were as follows:
  1. Approving the agenda.
  2. Approving the points discussed in the previous meeting.
  3. Approving the financial and administrative report for ACIT General Secretariat for the year 2005.
  4. Updating membership of the Steering Committee members crossing out the names of absentees for two consecutive times.
  5. Granting Yarmouk University acceptance to host ACIT’2006 in December 2006.
  6. Forming the final recommendations committee for ACIT’2005 from Dr. Ayman Al-Nsour/ Al-Isra Private University, Jordan, Prof. Osama Badawi/ Arab Academy for Science and Technology, Egypt, and Dr. Hamed Faware/ Zarqa Private University, Jordan.

    Conclusions and Recommendations
  • The conference sustained success receiving participation form 24 Arab and non Arab countries.
  • Papers presented by Arab researchers revealed their ability to conduct research, compete and innovate in the various aspects of information technology.
  • It is agreed that work should be pursued to get the private sector involved in sponsoring applied scientific research at academic institutions depending on motivating partnership.
  • Stressing the importance of inviting international and Arab companies to hold information fairs during the coming conferences so that Arab and foreign applied research and new devices could be marketed.
  • Encouraging public and private institutions to increase the financial support for scientific conferences.
  • Providing support for distinguished scientific papers that deal with technology in the Arab world.
Yarmouk University was announced as the host for ACIT’2006.
 
Thanking telegrams were sent to his Excellency Eng. Omar Al-Kurdi/ Minister of Communication and Information Technology. The participants thank Prof. Naji Abu Rumaila/ President of AL-Isra Private University, Dr. Ayman Al Nsour/ Dean of Faculty of Science and Information Technology, Dr. Ahmad Nserat/ Conference General Vice Chair, Mrs. Samya Abu Al-Rub/ Conference Secretary, and all members of organizing committees who worked hard to make this conference a reality. The participants also thank the General Secretariat at Zarqa Private University in Jordan and hope that it will continue to hold this scientific conference annually.
